Wendell A. Schick, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend of many went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 2:57pm and is now at peace.
Wendell was born on October 17, 1954 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Howard R. Schick and Colleen A. (Connor) Schick. Wendell graduated from Cory Rawson in 1973, he went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Business at Wittenberg University graduating in 1977, and later pursued his Masters of Business Administration from Ashland University graduating in 1985. While at Wittenberg University Wendell was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
After graduating with his degree in business, he started his first job working with colleges at Northwestern Business College as a professor, then after completing his Masters degree went on to work at Ohio Northern University as a Financial Aid Director until 2005. In 2005 he took a position at the University of Northwestern Ohio as a Financial Aid Director where he finished out his career and retired September 3, 2021. Throughout his career Wendell volunteered his time on many boards, committees, cabinets and was the President of State Financial Aid. Wendell had a true love for education and felt that everyone deserved the opportunity to obtain an education and better themselves. His passion for helping people obtain an education was amazing and he touched so many people over his life long service in Financial Aid. Wendell also served on the Board of Education at Allen East Schools and on the Allen County School Board.
Wendell loved God and his family and they were the center of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being in his woods. Wendell built a beautiful legacy for his wife, children and grandchildren and he was always so proud of them. He meant so much to so many people and was truly a gift from God. Wendell was also a member of the Lafayette Zion Lutheran Church.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Colleen, as well as his brother, Steven B. Schick. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Eley) Schick, their children Angela (Jamie) Coolidge of Westminster, Ohio and Derek (Elisha) Schick of Waynesfield, Ohio. Wendell has 4 grandchildren Jaden Scott, Jorden Scott, Caynan Schick, and Kinley Schick. His sisters Cindy (Tim) Hanover of St. Marys, Ohio, Linell (Jeff) Hertenstein of St. Marys, Ohio, and sister in law, Linda Schick of Howell, Michigan. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Wendell’s family would like to welcome all family and friends to come and join them in celebrating the life of Wendell on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 10:30 am in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Steve Edmiston. The CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL is honored to be assisting the Schick family with funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District @ 1682 Slabtown Rd., Lima, OH 45801. Donations will be used for the purpose of planting pollinator flowers in memory of Wendell.
