Robert A. Rhodes, 80, passed away on October 4, 2022, at 11:40 pm, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born September 6, 1942 in Shawnee Township, OH, to George “Harold” and Marceil (Edgington) Rhodes who both preceded him in death. On June 6, 1966 he married Marylou (Isaac) Rhodes who survives in Elida, OH.
Bob graduated from Shawnee High School in 1960. He was then drafted into the United States Army and honorable discharged after six years of service. As a young lad he worked at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, doing various community service projects, dusting, mowing and helping dig graves. Bob worked for both Shawnee and Elida Schools as a custodian. He also eventually worked for Bill Ahl Buick and was promoted to Assistant Service Manager. His last job was at Elida Schools and enjoyed being the School Bus Supervisor. Bob enjoyed fishing from time to time but never really caught anything. His true hobby was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished his wife Marylou and loved his family dearly.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marylou Rhodes of Lima, OH, children, Robert “BR” Rhodes, II of Elida, OH, De Wayne Rhodes of Fort Jennings, OH, grandchildren, Becka Rhodes of Lima, OH, Deborah Rhodes of Cridersville, OH, Kaitlan (Seth Harper) Rhodes of Springfield, MO, Blake (Marissa) Rhodes of Osborn, MO, three great-grandchildren and one on the way, sister, Ruth (Ed) Eley of Shawnee Township, OH and mother-in-law, Helen Isaac.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Rhodes, David Edgington and father-in-law, Millard Isaac.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 10, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOMES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the church.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 1:00pm at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 5050 St. Matthews Drive, Lima, Ohio 45806. Pastor Samuel Payne to officiate the service. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Township Fire Department or Mercy Health Hospice – Lima.
