Herbert L. “Herb” Lane Sr, age 71, joined his parents and son in his Heavenly Home at 1:37 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Lima Memorial Health System, with the love of his family by his side.
Herb was born on December 13, 1950, In Lima, OH to the late Dallas G. “Boots” and Virginia M. “Gin” (Shoemaker) Lane. On January 12, 1980, he married his best friend, Rebecca A. “Becky” (Harmon) Lane.
Herb attended Perry High School. He retired as a truck driver from Scot Lad Foods Inc. after many years of service. He advised his two sons, Herb Jr. and Craig Lane in building their construction business, Seamless Gutter then Semper Fi Construction and later Breh Construction. He served as a volunteer fireman on the Perry Fire Department for 15 + years, where he had served as Captain. He enjoyed working on old cars and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State Buckeyes and his Perry Commodores. Herb was a proud husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rebecca A. “Becky” Lane of Lima; four children, Rose M. (Paul) Stippich of Lima, Stacey A. (John) Kile of Lima, Keith D. Wooddell of Lima and Craig R. (Karla) Lane of Lima; daughter-in-law, Jen Lane of Lima; 16 grandchildren, Tanner (Morgan) Stippich, Sawyer (Jacob) Lawrence, Spencer (Spencer) Miller, Korey (Kali) Lane, Zack Lane, Jax Lane, Andrew Lane, Teysha Upshaw, John Kile, Jr., Donavan Wooddell, Keith “Boogie” Wooddell, Jr., Jayden Wooddell, Justin Scarberry, Kylee Lane, Craig Lane, Jr. and Austin Ruble; 6 great-grandchildren, Malaki, Khari, Khopelynn, Khenora, Eli and Kashtyn; 6 sisters, Sharon (Fred) DePalma of Lima, Nancy VanDyke of Lima, Cheryl Skinner of Elida, Deb (Tom) Hendley of Lima, Cynthia (Rene) Essex of Lima, Shirley O’Donnell of Lima and brother-in-law, Don (Cheryl) Weber of Lima.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Herb L. Lane , Jr.; stillborn sister, Elizabeth Ann Lane; brother, David (Laura) Lane; 3 brothers-in-law, Larry VanDyke, Mike Skinner, Bob O’Donnell and in-laws, Raymond and Gloria Harmon.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, at CHILES -LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Cheryl Martin will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, at the funeral home.
