Walter “Jim” Chapman Jr., age 79, passed away December 10, 2020, at 12:31 pm, at the Lima Memorial Health System. Jim was born January 22, 1941, in Lima, OH, to Walter J. and Oradean M. (Wolford) Chapman Sr. who preceded him in death. On April 22, 1962 he married Barbara E. (Jackson) Chapman who survives in Lima.
Jim was a 1959 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He had spent his career with Oakwood Corrections as a safety director and retired in 2000. He was responsible for starting the first fire department with the facility. Jim had also served as the assistant fire chief with the Perry Fire Department. He was a long-time member of South Side Christian Church. Jim is a former member of the Eastside Lions Club. Some of his interests included the Cleveland Browns, fishing, boating, camping, NASCAR, and the fire department. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his 3 daughters: Vicki (Paul) Kohli, Julie (Brian) Gilroy and Jill (Bryon) Parker of Lima, OH, 4 grandchildren: Shane (Jessica) Gilroy, Kayla (Kyle) Moyer, Cory Kohli and Kaylee Parker, 2 great grandchildren: Shaianne and Skyler, 2 brothers: Michael (Janey) Chapman of Warsaw, IN and Kent (Darlene) Chapman of East Palastine, OH.
There will be a funeral service held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. Todd Cosart. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 pm at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to South Side Christian Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
