Harrod, OH
W. LeRoy Roby, age 72, passed away on January 8, 2023, at 11:53 am, at his residence surrounded by his family. LeRoy was born August 17, 1950, in Lima, OH, to Norman C. and Pansy M. (Jones) Roby who preceded him in death. On July 28, 1972, he married his wife of fifty years, Sandra S. (Myers) Roby who survives in Harrod.
In addition to his wife, LeRoy is survived by his children: C. Scott Roby of Lima, OH and Melissa (Nathan) Marshall of Harrod, OH, 3 grandchildren: Jaden, Jadzia and Dylan, a daughter in-law, Tara Roby of Lima, OH, a brother, Butch Roby of Kenton, OH and a sister, Linda Kay Roby of Lima, OH. He was preceded in death by his son, Todd A. Roby, a brother Buddy Roby and a sister Frances Baxter.
LeRoy was a 1968 graduate of Bath High School. After working as a carpenter all of his life he started Roby and Sons Construction Company. Building affordable housing was his passion and he started a subdivision for that purpose, building many houses in the Kenton area. Always having an interest in classic cars he became the promoter of the Rebel Run Car Show in Indiana, but bringing it to Lima made it the success he always dreamed of. The entre… entrepr…entre…his drive (LOL, a little LeRoy humor) led him to self finance, build and open Thunder Road Drive In (the rootbeer stand on St. Rt. 117). All of his endeavors were supported and worked by family and many friends. As a result of being healed as a child, his faith led him to Israel many times where he was baptized in the Jordan River. Then he returned to Israel 3 more times, once with his wife, then with his family and his final trip with his friends, acting as their tour guide on the last 2 trips.
LeRoy led a very fulfilling life, doing what he wanted to do. He was a quiet man, unless you got him talking about religion or cars. He was always willing to give someone a chance and a handshake was binding. He taught life lessons to his workers over the years along with construction skills.
