Vonda Lou (Mowery) Zimmerman, 88, peacefully passed on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side.

She was born January 21, 1933 in Washington, IN to the Rev. Herschel and Hazel (Vowell) Mowery. She graduated from Mt. Carmel (IL) High School in 1951. On January 19, 1957 she married the love of her life, Kenneth N. Zimmerman, whom she lovingly referred to as Kenny.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Norma Talley of Olney IL.

Survivors include three sons Mark (Jamie) Zimmerman of Alpharetta GA, Brent Zimmerman of Lima OH, Tony (Angie) Zimmerman of Duluth GA; five granddaughters Jessica (Javier Serna) Zimmerman, Tina Zimmerman, Jackie, Emily, and Sami Zimmerman; four great-grandsons Jordan Zimmerman, DJ and Nehemiah Hightower, and Ethan Serna; four sisters Vera Meredith of Owasso OK, Janet Hill of Evansville IN, Melba Burger of Jasper IN, Lois (Ed) Patton of Mt. Carmel IL; and one brother John (Ann) Mowery of Owasso OK.

Vonda worked in the Treasurer’s Office at Apollo Joint Vocational School for 16 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church since 1970. She was known for her devotion to her family and friends, her zest for life, and her boundless friendly and approachable demeanor to anyone and everyone where no one was ever a stranger.

In the interest of safety in regards to Covid-19 protocol, a private service will be held at the Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes Shawnee Chapel for Vonda’s friends and family.
Pastor Bryan Bucher to officiate the service.
Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery following the service.
