Somsy Southibounnorath, age 74, passed away March 9, 2021, at 3:15 pm, at her son’s residence. Somsy was born June 5, 1946 in Laos, to Bouala and Touma Oopthong who preceded her in death. In December of 1966 she married Khampoune Southibounnorath who preceded her in death on August 2, 2015.
Somsy earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and had worked as an accountant while she lived in Laos. In 1986 she and her family moved to the United States and settled in Lima. While in Lima she was a homemaker and focused on raising her family. She was a member of Watpathavone Dhammaram Temple in Columbus. Somsy enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Somsy is survived by her five sons: Somtakoun (Ronda) of Lima, Kittikoun (Phanmaha) of Lima, Aroun (Sengsourivanh) of Columbus, Vongphit (Dalathip) of Houston, TX and Vongphet (Larida) Southibounnorath of Minnesota; her daughter Manichanh Southibounnorath of Lima; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way.
There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Ajanh Thavone.
Friends may call on Friday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
