Sierra S. Chiles, 81 of Lima, passed away December 11, 2021, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Sierra was born September 26, 1940 in Lima, to Byron and Leola (Roberts) Kohli, who preceded her in death. In 1961, she married Thomas Chiles, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Sierra was a 1958 graduate of Bath High School and earned her business degree from Northwestern Business College. She worked as a physical therapist at Shawnee Manor and helped her father manage the 311 building. Sierra was the secretary and treasurer for the Lady’s Auxiliary for Amvets Post #1 in Lima and she was an avid crafter; she had a ceramics shop at the 311 building and she enjoyed painting and quilting. She worked alongside her husband as a scout leader all while their children were in scouts. Sierra was extremely musically talented and could play just about any instrument. She loved her dogs dearly and enjoyed cooking; she was a wonderful cook. Most of all, Sierra enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Byron V. (Beth) Chiles, Leola L. Lanker and Dwayne T. (Sara) Chiles; grandchildren; Matthew (Michelle) Chiles, Meggan Hartzog, Cory (Abby) Hartzog Mikala Lanker, Chad Lanker, Zach Chiles, Nate Chiles, Jill Chiles and Nick Chiles and six great-grandchildren with one on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sierra is preceded in death by her grandson, Seth A. Chiles and great-grandson, Isaac Chiles.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, BLUFFTON CHAPEL with Rev. William Turner to officiate the service. Burial will follow in Rockport Cemetery. The funeral ceremony will be live streamed and can be accessed via the Chiles-Laman Facebook page.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County Humane Society, the American Cancer Society or the Equestrian Therapy Program.
