Russell L. Mason passed away peacefully at St. Rita’s Medical Center at 12:18pm on Monday, March 2, 2020 after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was surrounded by family.
Russell (Russ) was born October 14, 1944 in Pineville, KY to Bodie and Mary Ellen (Baker) Mason. He was a 1963 graduate of Perry High School and attended Stautzenberger College. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years.
He was married to his loving wife Marsha on August 25, 1972, who survives him. From that date forward, the two were inseparable. Russ was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. A longtime member of St. Gerard Parish, he was a kind and gentle man blessed with a strong spirit and love for God.
Russ is survived by a son Christopher (Laura) Mason, daughter Carrie (Sean) McKelley, and his five grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings; Minerva (Jerry) McGregor of Lima, Phil (Barb) Mason of Bullhead City, AZ, Bess (Richard) Jordan of Cridersville, and Arnold (Joyce) Mason of Lima. He was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Mason.
Russ was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 776 and was employed by Honeywell until retirement. He was an accomplished journeyman in the HVAC building trades. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. His interests were woodworking, travel, reading, and his grandchildren. He enjoyed numerous adventures with his wife. He especially loved their many cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Panama Canal, and family trips to Gatlinburg. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9, from 1:00-3:00pm and 5:00-7:00pm at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home at 1170 Shawnee Rd., Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 10, at 11:00am at St. Gerard Parish (240 W. Robb Ave.). Entombment at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Russ’s name may be made to St. Gerard Parish at 1307 N. Main St., Lima, Ohio 45801.
