Ruby Esther Diehl, age 98, was called into the presence of the Lord at 1:54 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2022, at her home.
Ruby was born July 4, 1924 in New Bavaria, OH, to the late Oliver and Mary (Leaders) Desgranges. On April 14, 1946 she married the love of her life, William H. Diehl who preceded her in death on August 25, 2006.
Ruby grew up on a farm near Holgate, Ohio. She graduated from Florida, Ohio, High School where she played the flute and violin. She came to Lima and was the secretary to the advertising manager at the Lima – Kenton Wholesale Grocery Co. She met William H. Diehl, the love of her life and after he had served 3 years in the United States Army they were married, which lasted over 60 years. Ruby was an active member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Martha Circle and made many quilts for Lutheran World Relief and she assembled the quilts hanging in the sanctuary. She served over 20 years as a 4-H Club Advisor in sewing and cooking. Ruby enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening and playing cards with dear friends. She liked to travel and loved to read, especially the Bible.
She is survived by three children, Susan (Florian) Smith of Lima, William (Cindy) Diehl of Fort Wayne, IN and Robert (Lea) Diehl of Lima; son-in-law, David Geiss; thirteen grandchildren, Augustine (Chris) Lamonge, Christian (Katrina) Smith, Amity Smith, Jennifer (Tim) Reid, Brian (Krista) Diehl, Katie Diehl, Mitchell (Dot) Diehl, Jordan (Aina) Geiss, Kyle (Kaitlynn) Geiss, Alaina Geiss, Rece Diehl, Brock Diehl, Jordin Griesdorn and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by 2 daughters, Christine Geiss and Linda (Jon) Schutte, brother, Walter (Helen) Desgranges and sister, Helen Desgranges.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 209 W. North St, Lima, OH 45801. Pastor Mark Bower will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Bluelick Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
