Ronald LeRoy “Ron” Gilbert, 81, of Lima passed away at 4:02 PM on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born on September 13, 1940 in Lima to Charles and Goldie (Toland) Gilbert, who both preceded him in death. On July 5, 1964, he married Joyce Ann (Bowsher) Gilbert, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2015.
Ron retired as a cleaner after working for over 20 years from Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant. He attended Delphos Christian Union Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing penny poker, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ron was very ornery and loved telling jokes. He didn’t know a stranger and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his four children Triceine (Albert) Asante, Stanley L. (Kathryn) Gilbert, Shirley (Terry) Donaldson and Mashell (Yaw) Ansah Prempeh; his grandchildren Brittanie (Josh) Evans, Kimberly (Jeremy) Hanson, Steven Burk, Rebecca Burk, Aaron P. Gilbert, Joshua Gilbert, Kaitlyn Gilbert, Cheyenne Gilbert, Charlie Gilbert and Tyler J. Gilbert; his great-grandchildren Jacob Evans, Abigail Evans, Emma Hatfield, Beckett Hanson and Harley Garnett. Also surviving are close family friends Steve Gilbert, Trisha Risner, Tina (Mike) Frazier and Anthony “Tony” Thomas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Leonard and Robert Gilbert; his sisters Nancy Deubler and Josephine Starkey.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 and from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL, with Pastor Glen Prine officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, immediately following the service.
