Robert (Bob) H. Whitacre, age 89, passed away on Friday May 31, 2019 at The Springs of Lima.
Robert was born on December 27, 1929, in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert and Zola Whitacre. On July 24, 1954, He married Dolores L. Keiffer, who preceded him in death on May 16, 2019 after 64 years of marriage.
Robert attended Lima Central High School. He then served in the US Army during the Korean War. Robert retired as a lineman from the IBEW Local #32.
He enjoyed fishing, loved to read and was a long time card carrying member of the Lima Public Library. He was an avid sports fan, especially OSU football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by his children: Constance (Donald) Shutt, of Lima, Kathleen (Nicholas) Krites of Lima , Patty ( Barry, d) Whaley of W. Lafayette IN, David (Janie Garcia) Whitacre of Dickinson, TX, Daniel (Deb Inman) Whitacre of Lima and John Whitacre of Lima. He is also survived by his sister, Helen (Richard, d) Miller of Lima, grandchildren: Nicole Grothouse, Steve Shutt, Robert (Shannon) Whitacre, Sara Shutt, DJ (Lindsay) Whitacre. Brandon Krites, Chelsea Simmons, Hailey Whitacre, MacKenzie Whitacre, Jordyn Whaley and Aleah Whaley and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons Robert K. and Michael J. Whitacre, sisters, Marguerite Cooper and June Custer and brother, Donald Whitacre.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, Lima, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Father Jim Szobonya officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Lima Public Library.
