Robert (Bob) Wallace Yetman Sr., 91, (formerly of Lima, OH) passed away April 2, 2022, at Sycamore Creek Ranch, Shenandoah, TX.
He was born December 15, 1930, in Meadville, PA to Christopher Walter and Anna Margaret Yetman, who preceded him in death. On January 30, 1954, he married F. Elizabeth (Gambrell) Yetman, his wife of 57 years, who proceeded him in death.
After his service in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Yetman retired as the Eastern Region Quality Engineer from Conrail Railroad after 43 years of service. During his tenure he was involved with the growth, modernization and evolution of the railroad starting with the Erie Railroad, which became the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and ultimately, Conrail.
Mr. Yetman was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his joys in life was watching his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. Of course, one of the others was congratulating them, followed by giving advice on how to improve. He was noted for his sense of humor and a deep infectious laugh that often left him and others crying due to laughing so hard. His love of sports became a part of his family’s culture. He was an avid golfer, and he played semi-pro baseball and football. His idea of a perfect day was playing in a foursome with his three sons, on a lush golf course, where he would give them all a lesson in how the game should be played.
His approach to life was God and family first. He was a member of First Baptist Church and spent much of his life in service to others. His sense of duty and compassion was witnessed as he cared for many different family members to improve their quality of life in times of need. He was often seen on a cold winter’s day shoveling and snow blowing neighbors’ driveways and sidewalks.
Survivors include: two sons, Christopher W. (Peggy) Yetman II, of Spring, TX, and Robert W. (Dawn) Yetman Jr., of Barto, PA; daughter-in-law, Jody Yetman of Lima; eight grandchildren, Amy (Todd) Koons, Christopher W. (Alison) Yetman III, Nathaniel (Olivia) Yetman, Aiden Yetman, Avery Yetman, Matthew (Tracey) Otto, Curtis Yetman and Robert W. Yetman III; seven great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Ethan, Oliver, Milo, Evan, Ross, and Kellan; his twin brother, William Yetman and younger brother, Marvin (Marilyn) Yetman.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Yetman; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Yetman; grandson, Nicholas Yetman; brothers, John Yetman, Severn Yetman and Edward Yetman; sister, Imogene Yetman.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, July 16 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lima, with Rev. Andrew Shields officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 451 N. Cable Road, Lima.
