Robert LeeRoy “Bob” Mead, age 79, went home peacefully with the love of his family by his side at 10:50 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2022, at Kindred Hospital in Lima.

Bob was born October 28, 1942 in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Howard Lavern Mead and Rosella May (Stotlar) Mead Ricks. On June 17,1989 he married Julie A. (Reeder) Mead.

Bob was a graduate of Fort Wayne Central High School and proudly served in the United States Navy, serving three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Bob had previously worked for Nickles Bakery in Lima and retired from the Ford Engine Plant in Lima after 26 years of service. Bob enjoyed his morning coffee at McDonald’s, riding his motorcycle, taking care of animals and he was a wonderful cook. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. Bob was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop #106 and Troop #3. He was a member of the VFW #1275 and American Legion Post #98. Among other things, Bob was a CPR and First Aide Instructor for the Red Cross. He was a proud father, doting grandfather and he especially loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Julie A. Mead of Lima; two sons, Robb (Heather) Mead of Lima and Brandon (Jada Zentz) Mead both of Lima; daughter, Sarah Mead; seven grandchildren, Jessica Meyer, Rick Mears, Chastity Mears, Brookelynn Miles, Payton Reeder-Mead, Tali Mead-Smith and Meena Grace; first wife, Elizabeth Mead; good friends, James Wessel, the Mike and Tiff Horner family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by in-laws, Richard “Dick” and Donna R. Reeder.

Funeral services will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Brother Bill Reeder will officiate the service. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and VFW Post #1275. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, prior to the service at the funeral home.
