Peggy J. Baxter, 94, of Lima passed away at 9:50 PM on Monday, May 16, 2022 at The Springs of Lima.
She was born on July 22, 1927 in Auglaize County, to Irvin and Edna (Lusk) Carter, who both preceded her in death. On November 4, 1950, she married Dale S. Baxter, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2012.
Peggy went to work for City Loan, where she met Dale and in 1951, they moved to Tiffin, Ohio where she went to work for the Tiffin Municipal Court as the Assistant Clerk of Courts and retired after working for over 15 years. They returned to Lima, where she lived out her remaining life. She attended Shawnee United Methodist Church and was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
She loved to garden, her dogs and had a special love for horses and always enjoyed watching The Kentucky Derby. She enjoyed playing the piano and collecting Boyd’s Bears. She loved the Cincinnati Reds. She had a great love for her family and was the one to get everyone together for family events, holidays. She was very much a people person and loved to entertain her family and friends.
Surviving are her two sons Jeffrey L. Baxter and Mark A. (Peggy) Baxter both of Lima; her two grandsons Corey (Lindsey) Baxter of Tampa, FL and Christopher (Jessica Zirkel) Baxter of Columbus Grove; her three great-grandchildren Gage, Kira and Gabriella.
She was the baby of eight children and was preceded in death by her seven siblings
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 20, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, where the family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM.
Charlotte Hefner will officiate the service.
Interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Uniopolis will immediately follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Peggy’s niece Denise, Charlene and Betty, who helped get her through the last 11 years of her life and to the wonderful staff at The Springs of Lima, who made her last couple of months easier. Also to Interim Hospice, Tim and Angela, who made her last 8 – 10 days comforting and eased her transition into the next world.
