Norma Jane “Docky” Taylor, age 88, was called to her Heavenly Home at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at
Kessler Estates Senior Living Center with her family by her side.
Norma was born May 29, 1933 in Lima, OH, to the late Villas and Amy (Protsman) Smith. On July 29, 1953 she married Walter H. Taylor Jr. who preceded her in death on October 4, 1992 after 39 years of marriage.
Norma attended Lima South and had worked at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Dog-N-Suds Root Beer Stand when she was younger. Norma worked as a cook and waitress for many years at 20th Century Lanes where she was known for her delicious recipes, especially her potato soup. Norma enjoyed traveling, listening to music, helping others, making people laugh and playing board games with her family and friends. She and her daughters bowled together in a league for many years, calling themselves “Taylor Made.” Norma especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she was happiest when she was serving and helping others.
She is survived by five children, Lorain (Thomas) Lovett of Lima, Peggy (Gary) Jennings of Lima, Anita (Eric Sims) Jennings of Maumee, Helen (Bill) McGuire of Lima and Steve Taylor of Lima; eleven grandchildren, Tony Hughes, Josh (Kelly) Jennings, Stephanie Shook, Nick (Christy) Taylor, Matthew (Stephanie) Taylor, Staci Duran, Shelby Taylor, Tylyn Taylor and Alexis Taylor, Jason (Jenn) Stump and Adam (Val) Stump; thirteen great grandchildren, Drew (Kirsten) and Derek Jennings, Josiah and Kaelana Simpson, Andrew, Jacob, Haley and Dominyk Taylor, Blayne and Jordyn White, Haileigh, Gracelyn and Avery Stump; great-great grandson, Theo Jennings and dear friends, Karen Ingledue, Robin Conway and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by son, Thomas “Thom” Taylor; three brothers, Edward Stants, Kenneth I. Smith, Jack (Martha) Smith; three sisters, Mary Nance, Annabell Smith, Helen Patterson and dear friend, Karen Wagner.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, at the funeral home.
