Nancy L. Shaffner, age 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 27, 2020, at The Greens of Lima Convalescent Home.
Nancy was born October 9, 1938 in Lima, OH, to the late Virgil F. and Lenore (Ryan) Kerr. On April 25, 1959 she married Jay W. Shaffner who preceded her in death on July 23, 1999.
After graduating from Lima St. John’s High School, Nancy attended St. Rita’s Nursing School during which time she met her husband, Jay. They went on to start a family and her whole life was dedicated to her family. She was a very spiritual person but her greatest gift was love. As her family grew, so did her love. She was often known for saying ” I love you more.”
She is survived by five children, Christian M. (Casey) Shaffner of Reynoldsburg, Elizabeth A. (David) Fiely of Greenville, Laura L (Rob) Beggin-Alexander of New Albany, Sara S. (Mike) Stevenson of Lima and Leslie M. (David) McGinnis-Crook of Monroe, MI; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Meredith) Fiely, Jason Fiely, Rachel (Matt) Kerns, Mitchell (Amy) Curtis, Garrett Beggin, Griffin (Jenna) Beggin, Michael (Christy) McGinnis, Sidney Shaffner and six great-grandchildren, Brynnasen, Rowan, Harper, Peyton, Isabelle and Scarlett and a sister-in-law, Shirley Kerr.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil F. (Joanne) Kerr, Jr., Bob Kerr; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Mary Jo) Shaffner and Jack (Mary Eva) Shaffner; sister-in-law, Joy (Earl) McCaslin and two sons-in-law, Dr. Bryan Beggin and Timothy McGinnis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 5, 2020, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 240 W. Robb Ave., Lima, Ohio 45801. Father Paul will officiate the service. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Saturday, December 5, prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to The Greens for the love and care given to Nancy during her final days.
