Michael Todd Cheeseman, 64, died at 6:31 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Lost Creek Care Center in Lima.

Michael was born on January 23, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Tommy and Bettie Cheeseman of Plain City, Ohio. Michael graduated from Jonathan Alder High School in Plain City, Ohio in 1973.

Michael was a raconteur hippie dreamer who held hundreds of jobs over the years from cook to computer programmer to small business owner to carny. Most recently he ran the flea market on route 309 here in Lima. His joyful tumult, unmatched albeit volatile kindness, and reckless zeal garnered friends and onlookers from Ohio to Espanola, New Mexico where he once built a 2-story tower to communicate with aliens. We didn’t make contact. Michael was a lifelong artist who loved to paint, craft jewelry, and write; he was an accomplished musician and could pull off a spot-on Marvin Lee Aday. He tilted at windmills with glee in a world that turned into mystery before his eyes…but there is remedy for all things except death. There was no drug, no con, no scheme, no performance, no platter of oysters, no swollen river Michael didn’t meet with the abandon and décor of a brown bear knocking over trashcans. He was remarkable. He will be especially missed by his daughter Alyssa King and his grandson Wyeth, whose love made him finally whole; his brother Tim, comrade and caretaker for the past 40 years, and his nephews Tristam and Charley who traveled and camped with him across the Ozarks and the plains so often, will always long for one more adventure. Our noble hearts are cracked. Good night, sweet prince; and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

He is survived by his daughter Alyssa King (William Charles Starrett) of Columbus and grandson Wyeth Edwin Cook-King. Brothers: Timothy Cheeseman (Kellie Armey) of Lima; Tommy Lee Cheeseman (Vanessa) of Eagan, Minnesota; Patrick Cheeseman (Vanessa) of Plain City. Nephews Chris, Tristam and Charley and nieces Amanda, Elizabeth, and Tabitha. Many thanks to the residents and staff at Lost Creek Care Center.

No service is planned at this time.
