Michael “Mike” “Moose” J. Vonderembse, 62, passed away on May 12, 2023, at 6:37 pm, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after a twenty seven year long battle with Melanoma Cancer.
Mike was born August 7, 1960 in Lima, OH, to the late John and Georgine (Amspaugh) Vonderembse who survives in Lima, OH.
Mike graduated from Shawnee High School in 1978. He was the Project Manager at Spallinger Millwright Services for roughly thirty three years. He was one of the first employees and was a very devoted man to the company. Moose was well liked by all and never knew a stranger. Mike was an avid Cleveland Browns fan through the good and the bad (mostly bad). Mike loved his family dearly and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known as everyone’s handyman and would help anyone in need. Mike never knew a stranger and was an experienced mover for all of his family and friends. He enjoyed his fireball and always brought life to the party. He liked grilling out and being an entertainer for many. Mike loved family vacations and going to the beach searching for various shells.
Mike is survived by his mother, Georgine Vonderembse of Lima, OH, children, Brittney (Scott) Huddleston of Lima, OH, Katie (Coleton Riley) Vonderembse of Mendon, OH, Cassidy (Shane) Biss of Lima, OH, Brady (Sierra Whitlock) Vonderembse of Cincinnati, OH, grandchildren, Ashton, Brody, Harper, Cooper, River, Grayson, Paisley and Baker, siblings, Beth (Mike) Mathews of Dayton, OH, Glen (Kathy) Vonderembse of Yellow Springs, OH, brother-in-law, Charlie LaBounty of Waterloo, IN, nieces and nephews, special friend, Sue Hoffman of Cridersville, OH, best friend, Scott Spallinger of Wapakoneta, OH, his family, friends and coworkers who were all there for him.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Susan LaBounty.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOMES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with a Wake Service to follow at 8:00pm. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 9:00am to 10:30am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2200 W Elm Street, Lima, Ohio 45805. Father Kent Kaufman to officiate the service. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church and The James Cancer Hospital.
