Michael J. Willeke, age 82, passed away at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at his home with the love of his family by his side, after a battle with kidney disease.
Michael was born October 8, 1940, in Ada, OH, to the late Donald A. and Bonnie (Conner) Willeke. He was born in his grandmother’s home. After graduating from Bath High School in 1957, he went into the United States Navy. He enjoyed sharing his Navy experience with his family and friends.
After completing his service in the Navy, Michael studied electrical work, kicking off his career as an Electrical Lineman. He worked in the field for 42 years. This work took him to many places helping others in some of the worst conditions. Humbled by his experiences, he was glad to have his supportive family.
In 1962, Michael met Bonita at a dance, knowing in the moment that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. They were married on October 26, 1963. Married 46 years, they had two children, Carmen and Pamela and they lost two children prior to birth.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. He enjoyed any activities with his wife, especially when they spent time gardening, traveling and camping. He was also an avid bird watcher, having many bird feeders to provide care to them at different times of the year.
In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by daughter, Carmen Dempsey in 1989 and wife Bonita in 2010; two brothers, Derek Willeke and Stephen Willeke. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Scott) Schroeder of Green Camp; grandson, Michael (Michelle) Dempsey of Marion; granddaughter, Mackenzie (Paul) White of Richwood; great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Dempsey and two sister-in-law, Janet Willeke and Marysue Willeke.
Michael requested private services for his children, grandchildren, their spouses and children. He will be buried with his wife in Allentown Cemetery.
