Mary L. Nellis, age 92, passed away on September 7, 2022, at 6:55 am, at the Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center. Mary was born October 7, 1929, in Lima, OH, to John B. and Ruth T. (Jones) Neuman who preceded her in death. She was married to Thomas W. Nellis who preceded her in death on March 9, 1987.
Mary was a 1948 graduate of Lima South High School. She had worked as a claims representative with Anthem Blue Cross for many years retiring in 1988. She was a former member of New Hope Christian Center. Mary liked to cross stitch, cook for the neighbors, seek and find books, taking bike rides and she was an avid studier of the good word.
Mary is survived by her son, Donald W. Nellis and Susan R. (Daniel) Kerr both of Lima, OH, 3 grandchildren: Brandon (Jenny) Kerr, Brittany (Troy) Schroeder and Jeremy Kerr, a great grandchild, Noelle Schroeder and one on the way. She is also survived by a nephew, John (Teresa) Emerson. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Nellis and a sister, Janet (Bill) Emerson.
There will be a funeral service held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor Christian Bucher. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
Friends may visit on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritans Purse. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
