Mark Axel Bowers, age 66 of Elida, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at 10:44 p.m. at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Axel was born May 1, 1956 in Lima to Ronald and Margaret (Sproul) Bowers who preceded him in death. On October 30, 1976 he married Cynthia Boothby Bowers who survives in Elida.
Also surviving are their children: Rhett (Eunice) Bowers of Lima, Connie (Eric) Kimmey of Elida, Caryn (Ben) Talbert of Lima and Geoff Bowers of Elida; 14 grandchildren: Alex, Tieghan, Tristan, Taylor, Brianna, Trevor, Tara, Cadence, Courtney, Zane, Abigail, Noah,, E.J. and Cody; his great-grandchild: Artist; plus his brothers: Roger (Dee) Bowers of Elida and Irish (Deborah) Bowers of Bluffton, SC, and a sister-in-law, Carol Bowers of Delphos. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings: Ron Bowers, Kay Ocker and Darrel Bowers.
He retired from American Township, Allen County and retired as the sexton of Allentown Cemetery. He was a coach for Little League and Allentown All-Stars Pony League and a pitching coach for Elida Varsity Girls Softball. He had been the quarterback coach at Shawnee and LCC. He was an assistant baseball coach at ONU and had played for Moulton Fast Pitch. He was also on the Allentown Basketball team. He was a member of The Church at Allentown. He was a fan of dancing, Elvis Presley, Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns. Christmas was his favorite holiday, with Thanksgiving a close second, and he loved God, his family and friends.
A Celebration of Axel’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Church at Allentown, with Pastor Neal Whitney officiating. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
