Marion (McGovern) Zulliger, 91, passed away Sunday, February 4 surrounded by family.
She was born July 3, 1926 in Framingham, Massachusetts, an East Coast girl who loved the ocean, as the second of Joseph and Katherine McGovern’s four daughters. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she became a nurse, a career she was proud to have. It was a nursing job that drew her to Memphis, Tennessee where she met a young Army doctor who turned out to be the love of her life. She married James Zulliger in 1950 at St. Francis of Assisi in Columbus, Ohio. A year later, the young couple moved to Lima where she’d call home for nearly seven decades and lovingly raised her nine children. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir, watched her children and several grandchildren attend school and witnessed several of her children marry. While working in her husband’s urology practice, she doted on her nine children, providing a secure, loving home — generally filled with the smells of freshly baked pie — and teaching them the importance of family. She certainly believed “the more, the merrier.” She traveled around the world, often taking her children and exposing them to different cultures, traditions and wonders. Her grandchildren adored hearing about her trips to China, Egypt, Israel and beyond and they, too, inherited her wanderlust. She did crossword puzzles daily, engaged in epic Scrabble battles with family members and enjoyed fiber art and coloring. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew she always had Pepperidge Farm cookies in the freezer.
She joined in heaven her parents, two sisters Delores and Alice and her beloved husband as well as her oldest son James Jr., and oldest daughter Mary Ann Pack.
She leaves behind her family — her true legacy — including children and their spouses; Connie Zulliger, John and Laurel Zulliger, John and Susan Pack, Barbara and Tim Barhorst, Patricia and George Guagenti, Susan and Paul Rupp, Tom and Laurel Zulliger, Nancy and David Rolsten and Robert and Valerie Zulliger; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She’s also survived by sister Jean Locke and sister-in-law Clara Zulliger as well as nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Sandy Ingledue and her husband for their wonderful care and the love they gave to our mother.
Friends and family remembrance gathering on Friday, February, 9, 2018 from 9:30AM to 11:30AM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL HOME, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, 1170 Shawnee Road, Lima, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow for Marion at 12:00PM at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Chris Jesudhasan officiating the service. Graveside goodbyes to follow at Gethsemani Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association Central & Southern Ohio Chapter, 1170 Old Henderson Rd # 221, Columbus, OH 43220 and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 4370 Glendale Milford Road, 4322 Cincinnati, Ohio 45242
