Lucia H. Burneson, age 85, passed away January 5, 2021, at 1:10 pm, at her residence. Lucia was born April 22, 1935, in Lima, OH, to Vernon and Elsie (Stidham) Hossellman who preceded her in death. On August 3, 1957, she married Andrew W. Burneson who survives in Lima.
Lucia was a 1953 graduate of Lima Central High School. She then attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she earned a BA Degree majoring in Education. Lucia spent a brief time as a teacher with Upper Arlington City Schools. She then moved back to the Lima area with her husband and focused on raising her family. She was a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church. Over the years she belonged to many clubs and organizations and enjoyed the people she met. She was a life-long member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Westside Modern Mothers, Jr. Service League, AAUW, Lima Symphony Guild, Delphian, St. Rita’s volunteer, Northwest Ohio Literacy volunteer, Allen County Humane Society board and bingo, Shawnee Country Club and the Sea Pine Country Club on Hilton Head Island, Friends of Literacy where she also tutored. She loved her animals, gardening and most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Lucia is survived by her children: Janet (Steven) Wetta of Westerville, OH, Cheryl (Don) Lee of Upper Arlington, OH, Lucia “LuAnn” (John) Bretz of Westerville, OH and Laura (Tom) Lee of Granville, OH, 9 grandchildren: Andy (Ashlee) Wetta, Matthew Wetta, Timothy Wetta, Sydney (Ali) Lee, Sophie Lee, Kaitlyn Bretz, Lucia Lee, Nathan Lee and Travis Lee, 2 great grandchildren: Owen and Chloe Wetta. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Stephanie Wetta and Jack Bretz, a brother, Vernon “Hoss” (Mary Lou) Hossellman and 2 sisters: Helen (Larry) Beham and Janet Lou Hossellman.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family will be having a public graveside service on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 11:00 am in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bryan Bucher. There will not be any visitation hours held at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County Literacy Council. The family has entrusted the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL in assisting them with funeral arrangements.
