Lois M. Smith, 102, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at 1:01 a.m., in Lima Convalescent Home.

She was born Oct. 27, 1919 in Bonnyman, KY, to Frank and Polly Ann (Combs) Meyars who preceded her in death. On Aug. 14, 1937 she married James Smith who preceded her in death on Jan .28, 2001.

They were the parents of the following children: Gerry Lynne (Gene M. (dec.)) Koch and Ann (Chuck (dec.)) Riffle both of Lima, Richard (RaeNell) Smith (both dec.) and Lee (Julie) Smith of Oklahoma; a sister, Betty (Neil) Yeakle of Hamilton; and the following grandchildren: Gene A. Koch, Barbara (Karl) Tracy, Brenda Gilbert, Danny (Gale) Riffle, Jan (Jeff) McPhail, Sherri (Nick) Bocanegra, Toby Smith, Amy (Mike) Betbeze, Israel (Lisa) Smith and Isaac Smith. She has six generations to her name, so there are many more survivors. A daughter-in-law, Barbara Smith survives in Texas.

She is also preceded in death by a sister, Sheba Goins and a brother, Franklin Meyars.

During World War II, she was a welder at Ohio Steel, doing her part for the war effort. She later was a clerk at Shaffer’s Meats in Lima. She was an early member of Lima Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She quilted until she was 99. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband. She enjoyed working in her garden. She also had a second church family, Elida Immanuel Church.

Services will begin at Noon, Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Eastside Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Gary Hohman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
