Lewis Edward Golden passed away peacefully at his home in Huntsville, Ohio on Tuesday, June 21, 2021, with his dearest Millie and daughter Sandi by his side after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.
Lewis (Ed) was born on June 25, 1949, in Lima, Ohio to Arthur and Donnabelle (Jones) Golden. In 1971, Ed married Katherine Rosella Booher and they moved to Marion where he worked at one of his favorite jobs, the Marion Power Shovel. The following year they welcomed daughter Sharon Jean and two years later, Sandi Christine came along. Sadly, Katherine tragically died when their daughters were young. Ed remained devoted to Katherine even after her death. He never remarried but maintained long-term relationships with Elaine Walters, son, Michael Walters, for many years and with Mildred Krochmalny the last eight years of his life.
Ed had a love of wrenching on motors and NHRA drag racing. The family spent many Friday and Saturday nights at Larue and National Trails Raceway where he enjoyed tearing up the track with his rear motored, Hemi-powered Fiat X1/9 Super Gas race car that he custom built.
After Marion Power Shovel closed down, Ed became and entrepreneur and started Golden Services. He was strong as an ox, sharp as a saw, stubborn as a mule and no stranger to hard work. He became very well known in the industrial sector for his ingenuity and unique ability to find specialty equipment, motors and electrical parts. He always said it was a knowledge-based business and while he made a good living in the process, he also supplied and educated a lot of people who became very successful in the business.
Ed was also quite the showman and talker and really enjoyed taking close friends and family, especially his sister Sue, on trips to Las Vegas. He loved to dress to the nines in his custom suits and hats; he was notorious for creating a spectacle at the craps table. Ed always drew a crowd and they rallied around him many times chanting “Eddie, Eddie” as he would chase the fire.
In addition to Sharon (David Conrad) Golden-Conrad and Sandi (Marcus Vest) Golden-Vest, Ed is survived by his sister, Susan (David) Bruno; brothers, David Golden, Michael Oard and Brian Oard, his four granddaughters, Katie Rulau, Sierra Conrad, Copper Conrad and Paige Hullsman; his grandsons, Zackery Vest and Brandon Vest and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; father, Arthur; mother, Donnabelle; stepfather, William Oard and brother, Patrick Oard.
Family members will be traveling to Las Vegas to scatter Ed’s ashes, per his wishes. To honor his memory, family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life which will be scheduled at a later date. Condolences for the family can be sent to Sandi Golden-Vest, 3475 Moorefield Road, Springfield, Ohio 45502 or at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
