Leo Charles Connors Jr.,71 of Lima, passed away August 1, 2018, at Springview Manor Nursing Home.
Leo was born September 7, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio to Leo Sr. and Virginia (McGinnis) Connors, who preceded him in death. On April 4, 1970 he married Kathleen (Whitney) Connors who survives him in Lima.
Leo is a 1965 graduate of Lima Central Catholic and proudly served as a Sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was very involved with the Knights of Columbus; he was Grand Knight and very instrumental in building the current building. He spent 20 years volunteering for the Square Fair and he was the Grand Marshall for the Irish Day Parade after volunteering for many years on the committee. Leo is responsible for starting fast pitch softball at St. Gerard and volunteered in the Catholic sports community for countless years. Leo was a man who never mixed his words; if he had an opinion, you knew it. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. Leo enjoyed a good time with good friends and family; his later years were consumed with the Cleveland Indians and spending time at his grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife Kathleen, Leo is survived by his son, Shawn (Pamela Matthews) Connors; daughter, Bridget (Chris) Kelley; grandchildren, Ireland, Bree, John, Boston, Burke, Mia & Tripp; sisters, Patricia (Glenn) Schroeder and Margaret “Peg” Foard; brothers-in-law, William P. (Eileen) Whitney and Jerry (Karen) Whitney; sisters-in-law, Chris Whitney-Arthur and Michele Biggerstaff; brother-in-law, Greg (Deb) Whitney; sisters-in-law, Lisa (Jim) McMullen, Laurie (Doug) Frueh, Meg (Tom) Castleman and Jamie (Bob) Fitzgerald and brother-in-law, Michael (Alison) Whitney.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandchild, Gable Connors.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Michael Houston to officiate.
Visitation will be Friday, August 3, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
