Lawrence “Larry” H. McGrievy, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on December 14th, 2020 in Lima, OH. He was born on May 23rd, 1931 to Lawrence H. and Cleo May (Hanley) McGrievy in Lima, OH who preceded him in death. On March 19th, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Betsy (Fair) McGrievy, who survives him in Lima, OH.
Larry was a 1950 graduate of Lima South High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Indiana Tech in 1953. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1955. After which, he began his career with Marathon Oil Company in Robinson, IL, eventually retiring in 1986 as Assistant to the Vice President of Refining at Marathon’s corporate headquarters in Findlay, OH. After retiring from Marathon, he was employed from 1987 to 1993 at the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 in Lima as Test Lab Supervisor. He enjoyed playing volleyball, gardening, woodworking, and being with family.
In addition to his wife, Betsy, he is survived by his five children: Cathy (Edward) Baker of Louisville, KY, Mike (Sharon) McGrievy of Big Spring, TX, Sheri (Roy) Allard of Marshall, IL, Pat (Patti) McGrievy of Houston, TX, and Tami (“Smokey”, dec.) Link of Lima, OH. Also surviving are one sister, Pat Hoover of Lima, five grandchildren, Michael Hirter (Heather Baker, fiancée), Dustin Weger, Bryan (Tori) Baker, Kalli McGrievy, and Lexie McGrievy, three great-grandchildren, Shaun Hirter, Leighton Baker, and Georgia Baker, several nieces and nephews, and his loving dog, “Penny”.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hastings, and his son-in-law, Larry “Smokey” Link. Memorial services will be planned for a later date.
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday May 22, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Eulogizing the service will be his son Patrick McGrievy. Following the services there will be military honors performed by the U.S. Army and the VFW # 1275.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Shawnee Chapel.
