Laverta A. Dackin, age 103, passed away September 16, 2021, at 5:21 pm, at the Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center. Laverta was born June 2, 1918, in Shelby County, OH, to Theodore H. and Margaret J. (Ziegenbusch) Egbert. On March 2, 1940, she married James E. Dackin who preceded her in death on May 22, 2001.
Laverta was a 1936 graduate of New Bremen High School. She had worked at Westinghouse during WWII winding motors. She spent the majority of her career with the Lima City Schools where she had worked for 18 years in the cafeteria retiring in 1980. Laverta was a member of the Family of Faith Methodist Church and the women’s group at the church. She was also a member of the O.E.S. and the Lima Senior Citizens. Laverta enjoyed gardening, canning and playing cards (bridge, bunko, euchre and pinochle). She had a strong faith in the Lord, a big heart and would do anything she could for anyone that asked. Most of all she loved spending time with all her family. Laverta will be greatly missed by many.
Laverta is survived by her daughter, Beth (Alan) Moening of Ottawa, OH, a granddaughter, Candi (Eric) Hewitt, a great granddaughter, Maggie Hewitt, a great grandson, William Hewitt, 2 sisters: Marian Price of Sidney, OH and Lois Nagel of Anna, OH. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Dackin, 5 siblings: LeRoy “Pete” (Ruby) Egbert, Harold (Doris) Egbert, Rev. James Egbert, Grace (Fred) Inderrieden and Hattie (Fritz) Anthony, 2 brothers in-law: William Price and Paul Nagel.
There a funeral service held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 10:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. John Maynard. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 pm at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Rescue Mission or the Family of Faith United Methodist Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
