Larry Eugene Smith, age 85, was called into the presence of the Lord at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Primrose Retirement Community of Lima.

Larry was born March 21, 1937 in Lima, OH, to the late Ralph Eugene and Eileen Leota (Foght ) Smith.

Larry was a 1955 graduate of LaFayette Jackson High School and attended Northwest Business College. He had previously worked for the family business Terry P. Smith Inc., which is now Smith Boughan Inc. Larry retired as Chief Plumbing Inspector for the Allen County Health Department. Larry was a talented pianist and organist who loved to sing. He had served as the pianist and organist at the Unity Church of Lima for many years and was an avid supporter of the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

He is survived by his best friend, Blair G. Kaufman of Lima; brother, Robert “Dean” Smith of Lima; four nephews, Greg L. (Carol) Smith, Tony W. (Susan) Smith, Ron E. (Shari) Smith and Rick D. (Michael Rull) Smith; close friend, Barbara (Richard) Robinson of Lima and many great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Joyce Esther Smith.

A memorial services celebrating Larry’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Pastor Todd Cosart will officiate the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to South Side Christian Church, 3300 South Side Dr., Lima, Ohio 45807, the Lima Symphony Orchestra, 1028 W. Market Street, Lima, OH 45805 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
