Lima, OH
Kevin L. Hollenbacher, age 56, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, at his residence. Kevin was born May 7, 1966, to Roy and Ruth (Hamblen) Hollenbacher who survive in Lima.
Kevin was an Eagle Scout and a 1985 graduate of Bath High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Marines, then the Coast Guard Reserves and retired from the Ohio Army National Guard in 2017 with 32 years of collective military service and held the rank of Master Sergeant. While in the Coast Guard Reserve he was deployed to Kuwait in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was a life member of the VFW Post 1275.
Kevin enjoyed life and had many interests. For over 40 years he spent time boating, camping and vacationing at Lake James in Indiana. He was happy driving his Corvette and searching for flea markets for that special find. Kevin was an avid collector and had an extensive collection of G I Joes and brewery collectables. Kevin loved his family and on Christmas Eve he would arrive as Santa with his bag of gifts to the excitement of all the children.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his son, Brandon L. Hollenbacher of Council Bluffs, Iowa, his brother, John (Suzanne) Hollenbacher of Lima and his faithful dachshund, Meatball.
Kevin battled brain cancer for six years. For 2 ½ years his father lived with him so Kevin could remain in his own home and receive the 24/7 care he eventually needed. The family would like to thank Brian Clum and his military family, John Lahr and the Lake James Family Resort, the Taylors, and Stonehills, Tim Naylor, Jan Grover, Chaplain Cheryl Martin, Meredith Hill of Toledo and all of his care givers. Special thanks to his brother John, Bud and Judy Poling, Tom Hollenbacher and the many friends who came to visit. Kevin’s optimism and humor will be missed by his family and friends.
Following Kevin’s wishes his body was transported to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center for brain cancer research. Kevin requested no funeral services and his ashes will be scattered on Lake James in Indiana. A Celebration of Life is planned for Veterans Day, November 11th at the American Legion Post 96 in Lima. Memorial contributions may be made to Deb’s Dogs, 1560 Wonderlick Road, Lima OH. 45805. The CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL is honored to be assisting the Hollenbacher family with funeral arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
