Juanita A. “ Jay” Sain, 105, passed away at 1:45pm on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Primrose Retirement Community.

Jay was born April 27, 1914 in Gooding, Idaho to the late Domingo and Rafaela (Alberdi) Aspitarte. Jay graduated from Shoshone, Idaho in 1932 and worked at a Department store in Boise, ID, as a buyer and seller. She then met the love of her life, the late Russell A. Sain and were married on June 7, 1944. They lived in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan his passing in 1992. They had 1 child, their beloved Isabel “Izzie” Sain.

Jay was a devout Catholic and attended St. Charles Borromeo in Lima, OH. She enjoyed family, friends, volunteering at St. Charles Eementary Cafeteria and St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In high school she played running center on her basketball team and became state champions. She also loved dancing, exercising, knitting, crocheting, cleaning, and baking. She was an amazing woman who touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

Jay is survived by her 2 granddaughters, Patti (Brian) Handlon of Asheville, NC and Dr. Christina Kenney (Joe Mullins) of Farmington, MN; a son-in-law Raymond (Carol) Kenney of Lima, OH; 3 great-grandchildren Austin, Kaylee, and Aaron, who gave her endless joy throughout the final years of her life.

Jay was preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Rafaela (Alberdi) Aspitarte; her husband, Russell Sain; her only daughter Isabel Kenney, and her 8 siblings Jessie Accorda, Joe Aspitarte, Maria Aspitarte, Mary Stewart, John Aspitarte, Dr Tom Aspitarte, Gloria Tribble, and Ed Aspitarte.

A celebration of her life Memorial Mass will be held at St Charles Borremeo in Lima, OH at a later date due to the recommendations regarding public gatherings.

A private graveside service with family will be held at a later date in Bruce Crossing, MI, so that she may rejoin her husband and daughter.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up at St Charles Elementary in Lima, OH. Please check back at a later date on this website for updates.
