John Robert “Bob” Mills, age 81, passed away October 7, 2018, at 3:15 am, at the Vancrest Nursing Home in Delphos. Bob was born January 31, 1937, in Van Wert, OH, to James C. and Margie I. (Semer) Mills who preceded him in death. On February 8, 1958, he married Evelyn R. (Kill) Mills who preceded him in death on October 13, 2010.
Bob was a 1955 graduate of Van Wert High School. After high school he joined the Ohio National Guard. In 1959, he went to work at the Lima Ford Engine Plant in the cleaning department and worked there until he retired in 1989. Bob was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Delphos. He also was a member of the Delphos Eagles #2089, Lima Eagles #370 and the UAW Local #1219. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and he was an avid fisherman and card player and was affectionately known as “Puppy Toes”. Bob also liked cars, car shows and listening to a variety of music. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his children: Tina M. Mills of Delphos, OH, Mitchell (Julie) Mills of Lima, OH, Susie Bonifas of Delphos, OH and Nick (April) Mills of Delphos, OH, 6 grandchildren: Kurt Bonifas of Delphos, OH, Todd (Kirby) Bonifas of Haviland, OH, Luke Bonifas of Delphos, OH, Anthony Bonifas of Delphos, OH, Shane (Andrea Longwell) Mills of Delphos, OH and Scott Mills of Delphos, OH, a step-granddaughter, Alyssa (Brad) Lyons of Wapakoneta, OH and a step-great granddaughter, Isla Lyons. He was preceded in death by a brother Jim (Kurko) Mills.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 11:00 am at the St. John the Baptist Church in Landeck. Burial will be in Landeck Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
