John Patrick Ryan, age 75 of Russells Point, Ohio passed away on July 26, 2022 at Mary Rutan
Hospital. John was born to James and Lillian Yvette (StAmour) Ryan on October 28, 1946 in
Napoleon, OH. Both parents preceded him in death.
John married Lesli VonAlmen on August 23, 1980 and she survives in Russells Point, OH where
they made their long time home near Indian Lake.
John joined the Navy immediately after high school and served from 1968-1972 as a Sailor and
as the stories go he tried his best to stay out of trouble. He told many stories of his time at sea
and was proud of his service to our country.
After the Navy John became a Stationary Engineer and Steam Boiler Operator at the Tank Plant
in Lima where he retired.
John was an avid fisherman and boater who would share his beloved fish stories with anyone
who was willing to listen. He was especially proud of his greatest catch which was a Muskie
caught on Wegg Lake, Ontario CN. He and Lesli were well known to travel near and far to
fishing camps on vacation, in their younger years they often traveled by motorcycle.
John was the youngest of 3 children and his older brother Robert Ryan survives him and
resides in Germany. John was preceded in death by his older brother, James Edward Ryan.
John leaves behind 6 nephews and 3 nieces.
John’s Celebration of Life with family and friends will be Saturday July 30 at Chiles-Laman
Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel from 9:30-11:30am, with graveside service to immediately
follow at Memorial Park in Lima. Military Honors will be conducted by the US Navy and
VFW Post 1275 at the cemetery.
