Joel Mekolites, age 52, gained his wings at 11:44 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
He was born on April 29, 1969, in Lima to Joe Mekolites, who preceded him in death on January 30, 2018 and Randa (Hammell) Mekolites, who survives in Lima. On September 18, 1992, he married Julie Stechschulte, who survives in Lima.
Joel worked as a roofer for 30 years, following in his dad and his Uncle John’s footsteps. He also built and painted many beautiful motorcycles. He was a relaxed and laid back man and when he loved, he loved with his whole heart.
There was never a dull moment around Joel, as he was always razzing someone about something. He loved his kids and his wife but most importantly his dog, Gracie. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, his younger daughter and friends shooting their .22 long rifle guns. Joel also enjoyed his donuts, snacks and Diet Dr. Pepper.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Julie Mekolites are his daughters MacKenzie and Kaeli Mekolites of Lima and his sister Jodi (Arby) McDaniel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Mekolites and his in-laws, Gerald “Steck” and Grace Stechschulte.
