Jerry Vernon Compton Sr, age 80, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at his home.

Jerry was born April 30, 1941 in Columbus Grove , OH, to the late Richard M.”Dick” Compton and Fern Louise (Bozman) Compton Davis.

Jerry retired from the Cargill Inc. – Grain Elevator after 30 years of service. He enjoyed walking his dog, Sassy and was a contributor to the Ronald McDonald House. Jerry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by five sons, Jerry V. (Kimberly) Compton, Jr., Randall Compton, Donald McBride, Douglas Scott McBride and Troy McBride; three grandchildren, Amanda Compton, Jessica Compton and Jerry V. Compton III; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Compton, Addalynn Compton and Carter Tantillo; brother, Rev. Larry Joe (Ardith) Compton; eight sisters, Dixie Hahn, Gladys (Russ) Lawrence, Donna Overholser, Judy Bowers, Karen (Danny) Wireman, Bonnie Stauffer, Doris (Tim) Stevenson, Tina (Marcus) Lori and sister-in-law, Ann Compton. .

He is preceded in death by his step-mom, Mary Compton; three brothers, Francis D. Compton, Robert E. Compton, Orville “Butch” Compton and sister, Betty Lou Holbrook.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, prior to the service at the funeral home.
