Jerry Morris Barnhouse, 90 of Elida, passed away November 5, 2022, at Otterbein Cridersville.

Jerry was born August 17, 1932 in Van Buren, OH, to Charles and Nellie (Fuller) Barnhouse, who preceded him in death. On June 9, 1951, he married Peggy Irene (Bibler) Barnhouse, who survives him.

Jerry was a 1950 graduate of Van Buren High School and a proud United State Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was an Electronics Technician at Westinghouse, CGR Medical and he retired from St. Rita’s Medical Center. Jerry was a member of Elida Immanuel Church where he was a trustee for quite a few years. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fan and a very talented carpenter. Jerry enjoyed working outside and spending time with his family; he especially enjoyed working on his family’s homes and helping them with projects. Jerry was known to make peanut brittle for friends and family during the holidays and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his wife of 71 years, Jerry is survived by his daughters, Karen Johnson, Linda Sheckler and Sandy (Mark) Riemesch; grandchildren, Drew Johnson, Whitney (Peter Killeen) Johnson, Tegan Johnson, Stefan Sheckler, Jessica (Eric) Allen and Jenna (Josh) Klein and his great-grandson, Lucas Allen.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Scott Barnhouse on January 31, 2015; grandson, Jeremy Riemesch and his siblings, Robert Barnhouse, Richard Barnhouse, Irene Ebersole and Betty Stewart.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Rev. Randy Coleman to officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Elida Immanuel Church.
