Janet E. Flinn, age 81, passed away on January 15, 2023, at 6:42 am, at the Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by her family. Janet was born September 30, 1941, in Lima, OH, to Jesse E. and Martha “LaRue” (Timmerman) Shoemaker who preceded her in death. On March 9, 1963, she married Brooks H. Flinn Jr. who survives in Elida.
In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by her children: Dian (Cheyenne) Ridley of Lima, OH, Marnee (Curtis) Flinn-Smith of Valparaiso, IN and Matthew (Christina) Flinn of Ft. Wayne, In, 4 grandchildren: Nicole Slack, Nathan (Brittany) Smith, Sophi Ridley and Jesse Smith, 4 great grandchildren: Talan, Landon, Remington and Ellington, 4 siblings: Patricia (Richard) Stacey of Beavercreek, OH, Barbara (Fernando) Oconitrillo of Miamisburg, OH, Nancy Williamson of Strongsville, OH and Dr. Gerald (Fran) Shoemaker of Celina, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was a 1959 graduate of Lima Senior High School. She then attended Ohio Northern University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. She worked in various small pharmacies and ended her career with K-Mart Pharmacy in St. Marys, OH from which she retired. In her retirement years she had worked at Noah’s Ark Day Care. Janet was an active member of the Gomer Congregational Church where she had been a member of the bell choir. She also was a member of the N.W. Ohio Pharmaceutical Association and the Ohio Pharmaceutical Association and the Soroptimist International.
There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor Brian Knoderer. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida following the service.
Friends may visit on Friday from 4-8 pm and then again on Saturday from 10-11 am at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gomer Congregational Church or SmileTrain @ smiletrain.org for the benefit of children with cleft palates.
