Jane A. Leahy, age 81, passed away December 15, 2022 at 1:20 am at the Primrose Retirement Community of Lima with her family by her side. Jane was born May 14, 1941 in Upper Sandusky, OH to Henry F. and Luella (Carpenter) Caldwell who preceded her in death. On June 24, 1967 she married John M. Leahy who preceded her in death on November 23, 2013.
Jane is survived by her children: Deborah A. (Doug) Fissel of Powell, OH, William J. Leahy of Lima, OH and John M. (Cathy) Leahy of Lima, OH; 3 grandchildren: Sarah Fissel, Ryan Fissel and Nick Fissel; a sister in-law, Phyllis Caldwell of Upper Sandusky, OH and sister in-law, Karen (Eldon) Caldwell-Sheffer of Gahanna, OH. She was preceded in death by 3 siblings: Bob Caldwell, Tom Caldwell, Larry Caldwell and sister-in-law, Mona Caldwell.
Jane was a 1959 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and had attended the Bowling Green State University. For a short time she had worked at the Legislative Service Commission in Columbus until she met her husband. Once she and John were married, she became a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. Through the years she was her family’s biggest cheerleader. She had volunteered in many different capacities to support her family from an elementary school room mother to Allen County Bar Association Auxiliary member to Cub Scout Den Mother and other important roles in her family’s activities. Jane always made sure that everyone in her family had what they needed and she took great pride in providing her family unique and well balanced meals every night for dinner. After raising her children she worked part-time at Root Outdoor Advertising and also spent many years volunteering at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Leahy Family Care. If you could ask Jane what her favorite volunteer job was, without a doubt it would be taking care of her grandchildren who referred to her as “Gram”. Jane attended St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, boating and spending time with family at Indian Lake and Hilton Head. Along with her husband she was an avid OSU Buckeyes fan and together they had not missed a game at the Shoe in 40 years.
There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 7:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Fr. Mike Sergi. A private burial will be held in the Woodlawn Cemetery for the family at a later time.
