James “Jim” W. Stauffer, age 90 of Lima, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. at The Springs of Lima.

He was born December 14, 1931 in Hicksville, OH, to Yoland and Edith (Metz) Stauffer who preceded him in death. On July 27, 1963, in Cadiz, OH he married Mary Beth Henwood Stauffer who survives.

Also surviving are their son: James Bradley Stauffer of New Orleans, LA; a sister, Sonya (William) Evans in Dublin, OH and their children: Michael (Tara) Evans, Dr. Cynthia Evans; a sister-in-law, Frances (Charles) Howell in Cadiz, OH and their sons: Brian Howell and Kenneth Howell; plus Jim’s dog, Emma Lou.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

He was a graduate of Hicksville High School and previously attended Howe Military Academy, Howe, IN where he was a bugler. He served on destroyers, The Wilkinson DL-5, and The Hugh Purvis DD-709 in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then graduated Bluffton College and graduated from The University of Dayton with a Master’s Degree. He taught at Ottawa Public, Harrod, Lima Central Catholic, Columbus Grove and Wapakoneta, among many other schools where he directed many musicals. He was then principal at Upper Scioto Valley and Perry where he became Superintendent the following year, until his retirement. Following retirement, he became teacher and principal at Bible Believers School. He was a trumpet player and gave many students music lessons. He was the former choir director at Shawnee United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He was a member of American Legion Post 96 and V.F.W. Post 1275, both in Lima, along with being a member of the N.R.A. He was an avid boater and fisherman, spending time on his beloved Beaver Tail Bay on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He enjoyed being outdoors and mowing the grass.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25, 2022 at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Servcies, with Chaplain Glory Geib to officiate the service. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery following the service with military honors by V.F.W Post 1275 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be Noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
