James W. Forte, 64 of Lima, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
Jim was born November 5, 1957 in Lima, OH, to Ralph N. Forte and Aljean (McPheron) Vorhes; his father survives him in Port Charlotte, FL and his mother preceded him in death.
Jim was a Corrections Officer for 16 years at Oakwoods Correction Center and a proud United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of VFW Post 1275. Jim was a member of the band Suitcase and he loved playing his guitar. He played many benefits with the band and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family; he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim is survived by his parents, Ralph (Judy) Forte of Port Charlotte, FL; son, Jason Hamlin of Wapakoneta; daughter, Jennifer Ballard of Dayton; grandchildren, Jameson Hamlin and Darius Ballard; siblings, Allen (Lisa) Vorhes of Sandston, VA, Debra (Darren) Roots of Lima, Tomi (Rodd) Carmean of Hilliard, Nicki (Erik) King of London, OH and Tony (Melissa) Forte of Grove City and many, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aljean (Robert E.) Vorhes.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 7, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – EASTSIDE CHAPEL with Minister Allen Vorhes to officiate the service. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 1275 and Active Duty Navy. Burial will be in Ada Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
