James “Jim” P. O’Neil Jr., age 65, passed away November 10, 2022, at 2:50 pm, at Lima Memorial Health System. Jim was born May 11, 1957, in Lima, OH, to James P. and Mary E. (Busick) O’Neil Sr.who preceded him in death. On August 20, 1977, he married Judy K. (Leatherman) O’Neil who survives in Lima.
Additional survivors include his children: Jason P. O’Neil of Lima, OH and Kimberly (Antonio) Dawson of Louisville, KY, 4 grandchildren: Sierra Page, Audrianna Bisbee, Jamar O’Neil-Wash and Aja Dawson, 2 great grandchildren: Mason Maybin and Kacillia Bisbee-Middlemiss, 6 siblings: Julia (Mike) Mangette of Lima, OH, Shawn (Vicki) O’Neil of Lima, OH, Steve (Denise) O’Neil of Dayton, OH, Bill O’Neil of Nacona, TX, Laura (Ray) Jasso of Brownsville, TX and Leslie (David) Perez-Guerra of Temple, TX and a sister in-law, Nancy Leatherman of Lima, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was a 1975 graduate of L.C.C. and had attended the University of Northwestern Ohio and also Rhoades State College. He had worked for Buckeye Rubber for 14 years and then changed careers and became a corrections officer with Lima Corrections. Jim was a member of the Cairo Gun Club and the NRA. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, watching Nascar, hockey and big-time wrestling. Most of all he loved Karate where he held the designation of a 3rd degree black belt. He will be remembered as being a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and an all around “wonderful man”.
There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor Brad Taylor. Burial of cremated remains will be held privately at a later date.
Friends may visit on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL.
