James “Jim” A. Downhower, 74, passed away on July 1, 2021, at 8:04 am, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born September 2, 1946 in Lima, OH, to Francis and Muriel (Martin) Downhower who both preceded him in death. On October 21, 1967 he married Sandra (Thomas) Downhower who survives in Lima, OH.
Jim graduated from Perry High School in 1964. He earned a degree in Accounting from Northwestern Business College before later becoming a C.P.A.. After college he started working for E.S. Evans as an accountant before transitioning to the banking industry where he worked for the Metropolitan Bank of Lima/Bank One (Chase), Union Bank and First National Bank in Pandora. He was active in the community and a past president of the Lima Better Business Bureau and Bath Dad’s Club as well as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Lima YMCA. Jim enjoyed coaching his children and going to all of their sporting events. He cherished his wife Sandra and loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He treasured his family especially being a dad and grandfather. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife, playing golf and biking.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Downhower of Lima, Ohio; his children, James “Jim” (Renee) Downhower, Jr. of Powell, Ohio and Jamie (Renzo) Downhower Olcese of Goshen, Indiana;. his grandchildren Megan Downhower and Thomas “Tommy” Olcese;. his siblings Sharon Smith of Lima, Ohio, Francis (Judith) Downhower, Jr. of Alden, New York, and brother-in-law, Frank Stroh of Rockwood, Tennessee; his sisters-in-law, Pat (John) Mowen of Lima, Ohio, Janet Irene Thomas of Lima, Ohio, Mary (Ron) Neth-Coy of Lima, Ohio.; and his brothers-in-law, Jay Thomas of Littleton, Colorado and Mike (Pam) Thomas of Lima, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Stroh and brother-in-law Owen Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 1:00pm with visitation starting at noon at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOMES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Brian Robertson will officiate the service. A private burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
