Gwendolyn “Gwen” Belle Treece, 76, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022.
A Lima resident all her life, Gwen was born in Lima to Ralph and Helen Worline May 27, 1945. She was the oldest of five siblings. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia (Daniel) Dutton and is survived by Johanna Anderson, Michael (Linda) Worline, David Worline, and James Worline.
Gwen is also survived by her husband Charles “Chuck” Marvin Treece Sr., whom she started dating while attending college at Ohio Northern University. The two fell in love and were married June 11, 1966. As active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they sealed their marriage for all time and eternity June 17, 1966, at the Salt Lake City Temple.
After being baptized at the age of 14, Gwen remained an active member of her church her entire life. She served in countless callings in the church during her adult life.
In addition to her faith, her family was one of the most important things in her life.
She is survived by: seven children, Trisha Marie (Robert) Anderson of Lima, Wendy Elizabeth (Dennis) Perkins of Lima, Samuel Cloyce (Melissa) Treece of Lima, Charles Marvin (Sherri) Treece Jr. of Lima, Erin Kathleen (Phillip) Hicks of Lima, Geoffrey Clark Treece Sr., and Angela Michelle (James) Wheeler of Lima; 19 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Gwen constantly attended sporting events, band and choir concerts, dance recitals, and other activities to support her children and grandchildren in any way possible.
Gwen had a heart of service, which in addition to caring for her family and serving in her church, she used during her career as a nurse.
She became a licensed practical nurse (LPN) right out of high school, and she returned to college at age 36 to become a registered nurse (RN). After working at various nursing homes in the area, she worked at Blanchard Valley Hospital for 19 years.
Gwen always had a green thumb. The inside and outside of her home was always filled with succulents, orchids, african violets, and other flowers.
She also enjoyed art; she always enjoyed sketching, and later in life she taught herself to crochet and quilt. Gwen shared her talents with her family, often gifting family members hats or quilts.
Gwen traveled as much as possible. Her and Chuck made several trips throughout their marriage. They especially enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountain National Park together.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1195 Brower Rd., Lima, OH 45801. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
