Lima, OH
Gary Oscar Moeller “MO”, age 81, passed away on July 11, 2022, at 8:15 am, at The Springs of Lima. Gary was born January 26, 1941, in Lima, OH, to Lloyd George and Lucille (Gruebemeyer ) Moeller who preceded him in death. On April 29, 1960, he married Ann (Morrison) Moeller who survives in Lima.
In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his children: Susan (Michael) Weeks, Amy (Jim) Hevel, Andrew Moeller and Molly J. (Robert) Edwards, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandsons, a sister, Darlene Williams, a sister-in-law, Kay Moeller, Molly Melby Moeller, 2 nieces and 6 nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Moeller, father and mother in-law, Walter Morrison and Janette Morrison Mort (Don) and brother in-law Joe Morrison and nephew Rick Morrison.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of The Ohio State University where he played football and was a (Co-Captain) of the 1962 team and then in that same year played for the Grand Rapids MI Blazers semi-pro football team. His coaching positions included: Bellefontaine High School 1964- 65-66, Miami of Ohio University 1967-68, University of Michigan 1969-1976, University of Illinois 1977-1979, University of Michigan 1980-1989 and was head coach from 1990-1994, NFL Cincinnati Bengals 1995-96, Detroit Lions 1997-2000, Jacksonville Jaguars 2001 and Chicago Bears 2002-2003. The thing he loved the most about his football career, besides winning, was being on the field with the players-during the game and during practice. He and Ann really enjoyed having their kids and grandkids at the Lake for the 4th of July for many years. They also got a kick out of having the three girls with them for get away weekends in different cities. MO was very humble and never boasted about his son playing for the Wolverines but he was very proud of coaching Andrew at Michigan in 1986 where he was (Co-Captain). In the history of college football there was never a captain of The Ohio State Football team to become the head coach of the Michigan Football team where his son played for him and became the captain of that team.
