Evelyn M. Sarber passed away 7/22/2022 at the Otterbein Cridersville Long Term Care facility after a short illness. She was born 10/16/1919 at home on Diller Road in Lima to Aaron A. and Clara P. (Hess) Miller. She always mentioned that she was born on the same day the Model T Ford that was the family’s first motor vehicle was delivered.
Evelyn was a 1937 graduate of Elida High School and a 1939 graduate of the Northwestern School of Commerce. She worked as a secretary for the First National Bank of Lima, the Lima YMCA, the SOHIO Lima sales division and retired from the BP Lima Refinery in 1985.
After retirement she volunteered at Saint Rita’s Hospital until 2020. She enjoyed her extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn loved maintaining her home on Diller Road that she and her husband Frank built in 1950. She resided there until moving to Otterbein Cridersville Independent living in 2020. She was active in the Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, was an avid reader and liked adding to her extensive wardrobe.
She is survived by her son John A. Sarber and daughter in law Susan V. Sarber of Galena, Ohio and her sister Irene Brutzer (Arthur “Art”). She was preceded in death by her husband Frank M. Sarber (married 1/13/1945), her parents, her siblings John A. Miller (Ena), Elizabeth Kuhlman (Willis) and Lillian Huffer (Eugene “Jake”).
A private graveside service for immediate family members will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband Frank. The family asks that donations to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church 105 E Main St. Elida Ohio 45807 be made in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be shared at www.chiles-lamanfh.com
