Earl Ellis Weigt died November 1, 2022 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio at the age of eighty nine.
Earl was born on September 29, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Ellis O. Weigt and Laura E. Weigt, who preceded him in death. His younger brother Harley (Dorothy) Weigt also preceded him in death.
Earl graduated from Melvindale High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Whetstone in the Korean conflict. Earl married Frances L. Sherman on September 18, 1954. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2018.
Earl worked his entire adult life at Ford Motor Company. Starting out as a tool maker apprentice and retiring as Manufacturing Engineering Manager. He was a well-loved and well-respected “Ford Man” during and after his career.
A dedicated family man, Earl spent his time working or with his family. When he got the chance, he loved to play golf, take road trips to the casinos, travel to the Gulf coast of Florida and restore old cars.
Earl is survived by his children Lee (Anne) Weigt of Edgewater, MD, Laurie (Donald) Camper of Lima, OH, Lawrence (Andrea) Weigt of Vaughnsville, OH and Lorne Weigt of King of Prussia, PA.
“Big Buddy” adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Eric Weigt, Anja Weigt, Jeremy (Brandi) Camper, Brandon Weigt, Charles (Sasha) Weigt, Franklin Weigt (Kylie Donley), Britton Weigt, Luke Weigt, Kiara Camper, Trenton Camper, Anna Camper, Paxton Weigt, Elizabeth Sherrick, Emily Weigt, Mia Weigt, Elaina Breidenbach, Lylah Patterson and Remington Weigt.
Earl was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Frances Sherman, and father-in-law, Farrand Sherman. He is survived by his brother in law Farrand Sherman, Jr (Donna) one niece and three nephews as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
Rev. Terri Haithcock will officiate a memorial service and celebration of life on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 3:00pm at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOMES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Deb’s Dogs Animal Rescue, 1560 Wonderlick Rd. Lima OH 45805
