Dr. Cheng-Te Lin passed away peacefully at his residence on the morning of Saturday, April 24,
2021. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones, he was 94 years old.
Dr. Lin was a neurosurgeon who practiced at Lima Memorial Hospital, St. Rita’s Medical Center,
Joint Township Hospital, Mary Rutan Hospital and Van Wert Hospital for 32 years.
Dr. Lin was born in 1926 in Beigang, Taiwan. He became a general surgeon until he was
offered the opportunity to study neurosurgery at Baylor University in Texas. After his residency,
Dr. Lin returned to Taiwan to open his own neurosurgery medical practice where he became the
first to teach neurosurgery at National Taiwan University: College of Medicine. After Eight years
he moved with his family from Taiwan to Lima, Ohio.
Dr. Lin came to Lima in 1972 along with his wife and five children. Before he immigrated to the
United States, he had already established a legacy in his native country of Taiwan. Dr. Lin
performed the first neurosurgery in Taipei, Taiwan in the early 60s. He taught at National
Taiwan University: College of Medicine and many of his students went on to practice here in the
United States. As a disciplined and meticulous surgeon, he placed healing and helping his
patients above all else. Dr. Lin was a remarkable and humble man who was well respected by
his colleagues and admired by any who had the opportunity to work with him. After 32 years of
practicing medicine, Dr. Lin retired in 2004 at the age of 77.
After retirement Dr. Lin became an avid gardener, planting over 20 trees in his backyard. Now
17 years later the trees have beautiful spring blossoms that are enjoyed by his family. Dr. Lin is
survived by his wife, Chin-Ying; five children, Dr. Da-Ching Lin, Julie Lin, DinWhee Lin, Sophia
Lin (Andre Konradi), and Dr. David Lin; and four grandchildren Kathy Lin (Geoff Anderson),
Anna Lin, Nicole Shin, Maxwell Shin; and one great-grandson, Tatum Anderson.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday May 1st from 2PM – 4PM at Chiles- Laman Funeral
and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel.
