Douglas E. “Doug” Hurt, age 80, went into his Fathers arms at 3:23 am on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his home with the love of his family by his side.

Doug was born June 27, 1941 in Alger McGuffey, OH, to the late Denver Carter Hurt and Naomi Marie (Holbrook) Hurt Lowe. On December 28, 1963 he married Donetia H. (Cook) Hurt.

Doug attended Lima Senior High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Doug worked in management for many years, having been employed at Westinghouse, BLH and Superior Tube. Doug was an avid football fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed family fishing trips. He loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of the Destiny Worship Center in Destin, Florida. He served the church in many leadership capacities, including as a member of Team Destiny. He was also a member of Lima Community Church. Doug had a passion for witnessing to youth and led many people to the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donetia H. Hurt of Lima; four children, Daniel M. (Colleen) Hurt of Fort Lauderdale, FL, James D. (Vicky) Hurt of Lima, Dawn M. Hurt of San Diego, CA and Melissa Nicole (Robbins) Hurt of Camas, WA; seven grandchildren, Madeline Nicole and Ian Douglas Hurt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Brooke Nicole (Chris) Martello of Lima, James Gustav (Fara) Hurt of Elida, Canyon Michael Hurt of Elida, Riley Nicole and Gage Elliott Robbins of Camas, WA; two great-grandchildren, William and Isabella Martello and two great-grandchildren on the way; brother, James D. “Jim” (Linda) Hurt of Ankeny, IA, brother-in-law, Richard G. (Maureen) Cook of Jupiter, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Bell Saunders; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy E. (Dean) Shibler and Debra A. Cook

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Gerbert Darlington will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 6, and one hour prior to service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Youth with a Mission (YWAM), SST 20131FM, 16 W., Lindale, Texas 75771.
