Bluffton
Dorothy R. Houts, 99, passed away August 31, 2021 Willow Ridge – Betty House in Bluffton. Dorothy was born August 12, 1922 in Bluffton to the late Albert and Sylvia (Basinger) Garmatter. On January 10, 1942 she married Clifford Houts who preceded her in death on September 4, 1997.
Dorothy graduated from Bluffton High School. She was a homemaker who had worked at the Lima Tank Plant during World War II and later as an aide at the Mennonite Memorial Home. Dorothy was a member of First Mennonite Church in Bluffton. She enjoyed camping, boating and water-skiing with her husband and family. Dorothy was a charitable person donating to several local charities.
Survivors include a son, Anthony (Janet) Houts of Dayton, Nevada; two grandchildren, Kimberly Stewart, Brad Stewart; three great-grandchildren, Josh, Justin and Sarah Stewart and a great-great granddaughter, Vanessa Stewart.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy K. Stewart; twin grandsons, David and Doug Stewart; a brother, Mark Garmatter and two sisters, Violet Moser and Ruth Strahm.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Pastor Jeff Boehr officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary.
